Lash Extension Size Chart: Diameter, Curl and Length

Read any lash tray label, compare every diameter, curl and length we stock, and see which trays a new lash studio should stock first.

Lash extension size chart for lash artists: diameter, curl and length, from COMELYLASH

Opening a lash studio or placing your first tray order? Start with mixed-length trays in one versatile size for each service: 0.05 mm in C or CC curl for volume, and 0.15 mm in C or CC curl for classic. Add 0.07 mm for hybrid work, a straight-base curl such as L or LC for hooded eyes, and single-length trays once you see which lengths you run out of first. The rest of this guide is a lash extension size chart: what each number on a tray means, how diameter, curl and length change a set, and every size we stock.

What to Stock First

You do not need every size on day one. A short list of trays covers most first appointments, and you can fill the gaps once you know your clients.

Tray Why it is on the list
0.05 mm, C or CC, Mix 8–16 mm A versatile volume starting point: soft, with enough definition for most clients.
0.15 mm, C or CC, Mix 8–16 mm A common middle classic diameter for healthy natural lashes.
0.07 mm, C, Mix 8–16 mm A more visible volume fiber for light volume and hybrid details.
0.10 mm, C The lightest classic option, for fine natural lashes or a very soft classic look.
0.05 mm, L or LC, Mix 8–16 mm A straight-base curl for hooded eyes and straight or downward-growing lashes.
Single-length trays Add these for the lengths you place most once a few weeks of appointments show you which ones run out first.

Offer mega volume, or see a lot of fine lashes? Add 0.03 mm. Want a deeper black for bold sets? Add the same sizes in Ultra Black.

Online orders have no minimum order, so you can buy one tray of each size, try them on real appointments and reorder only what you use. When you restock, buy by curl first: running out of your main curl is harder to work around than running out of one length.

1. How to Read a Lash Tray

Every lash extension size is described by three numbers or letters. A tray labeled 0.05 C 12 mm means:

  • 0.05: the diameter, or thickness, of each fiber in millimeters.
  • C: the curl, or the shape the fiber bends into.
  • 12 mm: the length of each extension.
  • Mix 8–16 mm: on a mixed-length tray, the label gives the length range instead of one length. Several lengths sit on the same tray, which is handy for mapping.
  • Rows: all COMELYLASH trays have 16 rows.
  • Finish: Matte Black or Ultra Black. It is not a size, but it changes how dark and defined the same size looks. See Matte Black vs Ultra Black.

The order of the label can change between brands (for example, curl before diameter), but the three parts are always the same: thickness in mm, curl letter, length in mm.

2. Diameter Chart

Diameter controls how visible each fiber is. Volume diameters are fine enough to make fans; classic diameters are thicker and placed one per natural lash.

Diameter Used for Look
0.03 mm Volume, mega volume The finest profile: airy, soft and dense in larger fans
0.05 mm Volume A versatile balance of softness and visibility
0.07 mm Light volume, hybrid The most visible volume fiber, crisp and defined
0.10 mm Classic The lightest classic option, for fine lashes
0.15 mm Classic A common middle choice for healthy natural lashes
0.20 mm Classic The boldest classic look; check that the natural lashes are strong enough

3. Curl Chart

Curl controls direction and lift. Here is a quick reference for every curl we stock:

  • J: the straightest and most understated.
  • B: a gentle curve with subtle lift.
  • C: balanced and versatile, a common everyday curl.
  • CC: rounder, with stronger lift than C.
  • D: the boldest conventional curl.
  • L, LC and M: straight-base special curls. L lifts most sharply, LC finishes with a softer curve, and M has a smoother, elongated lift.
  • LD, LJ and LB: further variations on the straight-base L shape, available on our Ultra Black 0.05 Special Curl tray.

For side-by-side profiles of J through LC, use our Lash Curl Guide. If you are deciding between the straight-base curls, read L Curl vs LC vs M Curl Lashes.

4. Length Chart

Length is measured in millimeters. Our trays run from 6 mm to 20 mm, depending on the tray. In a set, length changes zone by zone, and that pattern is what creates the style:

  • Inner corner: usually the shortest lengths in the map, where the natural lashes are shorter and finer.
  • Center: longer lengths here open the eye; this is where a doll eye places its longest lashes.
  • Outer third: longer lengths here lift and elongate the eye, as in a cat eye.
  • Proportion: keep each length in proportion to the natural lash it sits on. An extension that is too long for the natural lash adds strain and can shorten how long the set lasts; our lash retention checklist explains why.

Changing curl changes how long a length looks. A curl with more lift looks shorter from the front than a straighter curl at the same length, so recheck your lengths whenever you switch curls.

6. Matching Sizes to the Client

Each part of the size answers a different question about the client:

  • Diameter follows the natural lash. Fine or weak lashes call for a lighter classic diameter or finer volume fibers in small fans.
  • Curl follows the lash direction and eye shape. Straight or downward lashes and hooded lids often need L, LC or M; lashes that already point up may only need C.
  • Length follows the natural lash length and the style. Keep it in proportion, then shape the map zone by zone.
  • Finish follows the look the client wants: Matte Black for a softer black, Ultra Black for a deeper, more defined lash line.

Write the full size for each zone in the client's record, for example "0.05 C, 9–12 mm." It makes the next fill faster and keeps the set consistent.

Before Your First Tray Order

  1. Which services will you offer first: classic, hybrid, volume or all three?
  2. Have you picked one main volume size and one main classic size?
  3. Do you have a mixed-length tray for each main size?
  4. Do you have a straight-base curl for hooded eyes?
  5. Have you chosen Matte Black, Ultra Black or both?
  6. Have you checked that each diameter, curl and length combination is available?
  7. Do you know which lengths you will add as single-length trays later?
  8. Is there a place in your client records for the size used in each zone?

FAQ

What size lash extensions should a beginner use?

Many beginners start with classic sets in 0.10 or 0.15 mm and a C or CC curl, because one extension per natural lash is the easiest way to build isolation skills. For volume, 0.05 mm in C or CC is a versatile first tray. Mixed-length trays let you practice mapping without buying every length.

What does 0.05 C 12 mm mean on a lash tray?

It means each extension is 0.05 mm thick, has a C curl and is 12 mm long. Diameter, curl and length are the three parts of every lash extension size.

What lengths do lash extensions come in?

Our trays come in single lengths from 6 mm to 20 mm, depending on the tray, and in Mix 8–16 mm trays. Check the size chart above for the lengths on each tray.

What is a mixed-length lash tray?

A mixed-length tray holds several lengths on one tray instead of a single length. A Mix 8–16 mm tray covers lengths from 8 to 16 mm, which is useful for mapping a full set.

Which tray sizes should a new lash studio stock?

Start with 0.05 mm C or CC for volume and 0.15 mm C or CC for classic, both in Mix 8–16 mm. Add 0.07 mm for hybrid, 0.10 mm for fine lashes and an L or LC curl for hooded eyes. Add single lengths and 0.03 mm once you know your clients.

How many rows are on a lash tray?

All COMELYLASH lash extension trays have 16 rows.
